Abstract

In this study, a new organic light-emitting diode power control algorithm that uses optimal gray-level mapping curve determination is proposed. In general, conventional approaches produce color distortion or they require additional circuits for power reduction, whereas the proposed algorithm only changes the gray levels of an input image by considering the original image quality without additional circuits. In particular, the proposed algorithm generates an objective function after estimating the image degradation and power consumption. Next, it searches for the minimum value of the function and determines the final gray-level mapping curve. According to the results of simulations, the proposed algorithm reduces the power consumption by up to 10.964% compared with the conventional algorithm, while still preserving the high image quality.
