Abstract
As the size and resolution of LCD TVs increases, the merits
of the temporal division driving method (TDM), which can replace pixel-division
technology, have become more important because of the difficulty in
packing multiple subpixels into a high-resolution panel. However,
several image-quality issues in TDM panels (such as flicker and moving
artifacts) limit the adoption of TDM technology in LCDs. In this paper,
we propose a method to overcome the drawbacks of the TDM method using
pixel dithering, and we investigate the image-quality improvement
of the new method using subjective image-quality assessments. We also
determine the optimum conditions for enjoying the best performance
of LCDs with TDM technology. This demonstration shows that high-resolution
TV is capable of adopting TDM technology .
