Abstract

Two series of high birefringence fluoro terphenyl compounds are investigated. A binary mixture M1, instead of each individual compound, is found to have predictable properties when mixed with other host mixtures. Doping M1 to a low birefringence thin-film transistor (TFT) mixture improves the figure of merit by 2x to 3x. Based on M1, a high birefringence and large dielectric anisotropy TFT mixture was formed and its properties evaluated.
