Abstract

The spectroscopic laboratory of the Division of Laboratories and Research, New York State Department of Health, was planned in 1930. Gradually thereafter spectroscopic and other physical equipment was purchased. Methods for its use in basic research and in service were developed for the investigation of certain laboratory products that are involved in the problems of infection and immunity. Spectroscopic methods were being applied for the investigation of these problems in the early nineteen thirties chiefly in European laboratories. Many of these were visited to study organization, instrumentation, and methods.
