Powdered Standards for Spectrochemical Analysis

Abstract

In spectrochemical laboratories that are required to analyze a wide variety of materials, the utilization of samples and standards in the powdered form offers a number of advantages over other forms. Nearly all classes of materials can be prepared as powders. These include most of the metals and their alloys which can be converted to a suitable salt or oxide; ceramic materials, paint pigments, glasses and ores which can be readily pulverized to a fine powder; and ashes of organic materials which are generally already in the powdered state and require only mixing.
