Dissolution and Determination of Indium in Low-Grade Ores

Abstract

Indium is an important element in many scientific and industrial applications. It is currently used in the manufacture of semiconductors, liquid crystal displays, and low-temperature solder. High-purity indium is also used in the manufacture of solar cells, aircraft windshields, superconductive materials, and surface lubricants. Current methods for the recovery of indium focus on ores containing between 0.2 and 0.02% indium. As the demand for indium increases, indium recovery from low-grade sources will become more important. This consideration, in turn, will drive the need for research on the extraction of indium from low-grade ore sources.
