Abstract

FT-IR spectroscopy has been used to investigate the kinetics of SO2/CaO reaction at high temperatures, 700 to 1000°C. The estimated kinetic parameters, namely the activation energy (34.7 kcal/mole) and the order with respect to SO2 partial pressure (~0.60 ± 0.02) are in excellent agreement with the earlier reports where thermogravimetric and chemical analysis methods were used, thus supporting MIR spectroscopy as a viable tool for the kinetics of gas/solid reaction at high temperatures.
