Abstract

By the use of a rate equation approach and a disregard for recombination between ions and electrons, the variation of fluorescence and ionization signals as a function of laser intensity is given. Plots of ion and photon yields vs. laser intensity for various values of important parameters are given and are discussed with respect to the significance of collisional ionization and photoionization.
