Abstract

Spectropolarimeters are single-beam spectrometers equipped with a polarization modulation optical device for measuring the differential absorption of circularly and linearly polarized light (circular dichroism and linear dichroism, respectively). Circular dichroism (CD) is useful for studying the conformation of molecules in an isotropic solution, and linear dichroism (LD) gives information about the relative orientations of the chromophores in an oriented sample.
