Calcium Fluoride Anvil Cell for High-Pressure Infrared Spectroscopy

Abstract

In many high-pressure vibrational spectroscopic studies the pressure required is below about 10 kbar, Moreover, infrared microanalysis is usually carried out with a diamond anvil cell under a pressure of less than 1 kbar. Therefore, we have recently developed a cheaper and more readily available glass anvil cell for high-pressure Raman and infrared spectroscopies. However, glass strongly absorbs infrared radiation in the frequency region below 2750 cm<sup>−1</sup> and thus the glass anvil cell can be used for high-pressure infrared spectroscopy only in the frequency range above 2750 cm<sup>−1</sup>.
