Abstract

Several methods of preparing mixtures of powdered samples for diffuse reflectance infrared spectrometry are described. Simply grinding two materials together does not usually lead to a homogeneous mixture because the softer material will adhere to the walls of the vessel holding the mixture. The components should be ground separately and then mixed and shaken together vigorously, preferably using a mechanical device such as a Wig-L-Bug.
