Abstract

Measurement of a number of characteristic spectroscopic features of a series of mono-substituted acetic acids has been performed. Selected infrared, near infrared, ultraviolet, Raman, and nuclear magnetic resonance data are presented. Attempts have been made to correlate these data with the pKa values and Taft sigma constants. Correlation coefficients have been calculated, and their values are discussed in terms of various specific structural features.
