Absorbance Compensation Technique in the Analytical Laboratory

Abstract

Modern Fourier transform infrared instruments, which are designed around a laser calibrated wavelength determination, make it possible to obtain high quality absorbance subtracted infrared spectra. This technique coupled with solvent variations can provide unambiguous characterization of mixtures. The use of the absorbance subtraction procedure in identification, comparison (quality control), and surface effects is illustrated by several examples.
