Abstract

Procedures are presented for calibration of electronic adjustable waveform capacitor discharge spark sources. Both individual component measurements and system measurements are discussed. Characterization of components and subsystems involved in capacitor charging, spark formation, and discharge current control is described. Specific measurement devices and techniques are discussed, and precision requirements for various degrees of characterization of both components and systems are given. Application of the characterization procedures to routine source monitoring and to source development are also presented.
