Abstract

For accurate measurements of the temperature dependence of Raman cross sections up to high temperatures, flowing gas systems generate excessive temperature gradients and are subjected to refractive scintillation. At the same time, pyrolysis of even small traces of contaminants in such systems leads to a gradual buildup of their decomposition products in the cell. If, on the other hand, a closed cell is employed, either the cell must be sealed (which is inconvenient if many samples are to be used in a non-throwaway cell of good optical quality), or a high temperature valve with excellent sealing qualities must be used.
