Abstract

Infrared emission spectroscopy has been mentioned in a number of recent articles as an alternative to absorption spectroscopy in special situations. For example, absorption spectroscopy is evidently difficult to use in the analysis of coatings on surfaces or of adsorbed films on opaque substrates. Reflection techniques (diffuse or attenuated total reflection) are generally not viable alternatives, especially with rough surfaces.
