Abstract

In NMR work when an external reference is required, the coaxial tubes are normally employed. The commercially available coaxial tubes consist of an inner and an outer tube which are closed at one end. The inner tube is centrally held by two movable glass spacers. There are some disadvantages to this arrangement. First, the inner tube often cannot be held rigidly so that spinning sidebands are present. Second, because of the small diameter of the inner tube at the closed end where the reference solution is situated, it is difficult to clean after use.
