Pen Adaptor for Recording Spectrometers

Abstract

A satisfactory recording pen has long been needed by operators of many recording instruments and, in particular, by a large number of absorption spectroscopists. Pen characteristics such as immediate starting, line sharpness, rapid drying without smearing, vividness and variety of color, ability to follow the instrument signal during relatively fast recordings without skipping or losing line width or color intensity, nonclogging, convenient storage, long life and low cost are highly desirable. We have obtained these pen characteristics through the use of an adaptor (Fig. 1) on the pen carriage of our infrared spectrometers (Fig. 2) that allows us to use inexpensive, commercially available fine line felt-tip pens containing permanent, nonlacquer type ink.
