Abstract

An empirical study has been made of the infrared spectra of the monobutyl naphthalenes to determine the effect of the structure of the butyl isomer on some of the vibrations of the naphthalene nucleus. Where possible, band assignments to butyl and to naphthalene group vibrations have been made. Spectra-structure correlations are made in several important regions of the spectrum and compared with those obtained with the monobutyl benzenes.
