Image-Rotating Device for a Spectrograph Illumination System

Abstract

Often, in the course of optical investigations, particularly with spectrographs, it becomes desirable to orient the image of a fixed light source in some particular direction with respect to the spectrograph slit. This situation presents no problem if the light path has a section where the light beam is parallel. Here one may use a Dove prism for the image rotation. However, if the light beam has no section with parallel light or if the optical investigations are being carried out in the ultraviolet or infrared regions of the spectrum where the cost of achromatic optics becomes prohibitive, then one must use front-surface mirrors.
