Abstract

The spectra of 35 metal nitrates are presented. A tabulation of observed absorption maxima is made and an interpretation of the spectra provided. This is based on symmetry changes on the nitrate group, resulting from changes in the metal-to-nitrate bond. The compounds are classified as to the degree of ionic or covalent character.
