Abstract

Applications of quantitative ultraviolet vapor spectrophotometry are discussed. A micropipet-sintered disc sample introduction technique based on accurate volume measurements circumvents difficult measurement of low pressures. The method greatly facilitates determination of accurate absorption intensities and thus permits many applications of vapor spectra requiring accurate intensity data. Quantitative analyses are presented. Deviations from the linear absorption law in the sharp bands of benzene and toluene vapors have been studied quantitatively. These deviations may be due to finite slit widths or to nearby scattered radiation, but they apparently are not due to sample fluorescence.
