Parametric effects on the evaluation of threshold chromaticity differences using red printed samples
Color difference modelling remains an important domain of activity in the color science community. Research includes the examination of deviations in performance among advanced models due to various parametric factors, as well as the spatial position of colors in the color space. This paper starts with some background literature, including a review of established visual datasets and fitting models, and then proceeds to analyze the tilt in the major axes for the chromaticity-discrimination ellipses centered around the CIE red color center. The authors then discuss an experimental visual assessment method for variations in color of printed papers. They conclude that the tilt for chromaticity-discrimination ellipses is somewhat affected by the type and degree of separation between samples. They further conclude the CAM02-based models outperform the CIEDE2000 formula. Overall, this paper includes some valuable insights for researchers interested in modelling color differences.
