(a) This negative copy of an interferogram shows the smooth rings associated with the laser light and the granular rings associated with the SBS light. (b) A Galilean telescope has been inserted before the ground glass and reduces the granularity of the rings caused by the SBS light so that both sets of rings are smooth. (c) A modified ruby laser with a uniform spatial intensity was used to take this interferogram. The narrower rings are caused by SBS light and have larger granules than the rings caused by the laser.
