Abstract

Electrostatic fields of imagewise charge patterns may be calculated for typical cases by two or three dinerent methods. Conclusions drawn from the calculations are in agreement with experience. The most important application is to an understanding of development methods such as are leading to visible pictures. Adjacency effect, solid area coverage, and the effect of a development electrode in its many different embodiments can be explained. Analogies with chemical reactions are likely to exist, although they could not yet be definitely established.
