Abstract

A fused polymer optical fiber star coupler utilizing a new fabrication technology has been developed. The uncladded fibers over the coupling region are fused together by a heat shrink sleeve. Low-cost star couplers with large port numbers, low excess losses, and high-uniformity variation are realized.
