Women swell ranks of science but remain invisible at the top

Abstract

Women with science Ph.D.’s haυe ~20% of the jobs. Of the 121,400 scientists who meet the criteria for listing in the coming edition of American Men and Women of Science 110,022 are men, 7498 are women (~6%), and 3880 do not specify sex. Of 66 top Federal science positions 6 are held by women. This report is reprinted by permission from The New York Times Science Section of 21 May 1991.
