Optical implementation of a phase retrieval algorithm

Abstract

Optical systems that retrieve phase information from intensity information are presented. They are optical implementations of the Gerchberg-Saxton algorithm. The solution is achieved as oscillations build up inside a resonator where a photorefractive crystal serves as an amplifier or phase conjugate mirror.
