Abstract
An approximate method for the analysis of distributed feedback lasers is presented. An expression for the small signal gain coefficient αoN as a function of the output power PNout normalized to the saturation power Ps, loss coefficient αNL, coupling coefficient κ, and length of the laser L is obtained. The result is found to be in good agreement for |κ|L > 0.1 and qualitative agreement for 0.01 < |κ|L < 0.1 with published computer solutions. Also the frequency relation, valid for |κ|L > 4, is derived.
