Abstract

A new tracking guide for optical disks formed by photodarkening of As–Se–S–Ge amorphous film has been developed. The tracking error signal intensity of the tracking guide was comparable with that of conventional pregrooved disks. Using an As–Te film as the recording film, recording and playback of a 1-MHz signal were performed along the tracking guides at 1800 rpm.
