Abstract

A discrete-time discrete-frequency implementation of a Wigner distribution based detection system is proposed as an extension to the previously proposed continuous-time Wigner distribution based detection system. To analyze the performance of this discrete system, a discrete-time discrete-frequency version of Moyal’s formula is derived. Using this formula it is shown that the output SNRs for Wigner based methods are lower than the output SNRs of optimal cross-correlators. It is also shown that the worst-case difference in the SNRs is 0.5 dB.
