Schematic diagram for pulse duration measurements by degenerate four-wave mixing. The spatial distribution of the conjugate wave A3 contains information about the temporal structure of replicas A1 and A2 of the pulse to be measured. The energy contained in A3 is deposited on the detector (photoplate, diode array, etc.) after reflection from the semitransparent beam splitter. To observe the near-field distribution of the conjugate beam, a one-to-one imaging objective lens should be positioned between the beam splitter and detector plane.
