Photometric Accuracy of Infrared Spectrophotometers

Abstract

A method for photometric calibration of infrared spectrophotometers is based on the use of a secondary transmittance standard of calcium fluoride whose transmittance has been established with a rotating sector. The transferability of intensity data among Beckman IR-7’s has been studied by measuring the absorption bands of indene. The average deviation from the mean values of 10 indene bands measured on five calibrated instruments is 0.8% transmittance. It is suggested that the residual differences after calibration are due to small variations in slit function among the instruments.
