Schematic of the experimental setup. A rotating–vibrational mechanical converter translates the 4880-Å and 5145-Å filters in the all-lines beam of a Spectra-Physics 164 Ar+ laser. At the output of a Coderg PHo spectrometer the signal goes through a preamplifier (pa) and a discrimator (discri). It is then gated to two frequency-to-voltage converters (F/V).

Raman spectra of zinc sulfide doped with 3% manganese at room temperature: (a) classical Raman plus luminescence spectrum induced by a 5145-Å line; (b) luminescence-rejected spectrum, using the 5145-Å line for Raman analysis and the 4880-Å line for luminescence compensation [note that compared with the spectrum in Fig. 2(a), the gain has been multiplied by ten]; and (c) classical Raman spectrum induced by a 6471-Å line.
