Abstract

A photoelectric stellar image analyzer has been constructed to measure the separation of close binary stars (about 1 see of arc separation). Data are collected by coherent superposition of thousands of images thereby reducing the effects of the atmosphere. The technique is particularly useful when a large intensity difference exists between the binary components.
