Photoelectron Energy Distribution Measurements for 10 to 50 eV Photons with a Planar Analyzer and Electron Multiplier

Abstract

A windowless detector for use in the extreme ultraviolet (EUV) that combines a planar retarding potential analyzer with an electrostatic electron multiplier is described. Data obtained with this detector on the normal energy distribution of photoelectrons emitted from a tungsten cathode for radiation between 256 Å and 1216 Å are presented. The use of the detector for limited spectral resolution in the EUV also is discussed.
