Abstract

Using the exact vector form solution of Maxwell’s equations for optical waveguides we calculated the wavelengths for zero total dispersion λk based on measured profiles of preforms and fibers that were subsequently drawn to 125-μm diam. To check the reproducibility of the same kinds of preform as well as for the collection of samples, four depressed clad single-mode preforms and ten selected pieces of the drawn fibers were used for this study. It was found that the calculated λk values agree well with the experimental results.
