Laser-induced striations in a hydrogen-discharge plasma

Abstract

Laser-induced transient striations are observed in a hydrogen-discharge plasma by monitoring the sidelight fluorescence of the H-β line along the length of the positive column following direct pulsed-laser photoionization in a localized volume. Damped spatially periodic structure is observed on the anode side of the photoionization point.
