Abstract

For a Twyman interferometer equipped with a high-quality collimator objective and a separator plate fabricated from glass that is highly homogeneous in refractive index (Δn=1×10−6), an equation is derived that makes it possible to predict the result of the interference and correct it in the desired direction if the magnitudes and signs of the surface errors of the interferometer are known ahead of time. If the magnitudes and signs of the errors satisfy the resulting equation, the wave front of the interferometer will be planar.
