Abstract

This paper proposes a method for quantitatively estimating the mechanical strength of optical coatings from the results of microhardness tests by indentation with a diamond indenter. It is shown that the results for different coatings can be compared only if the indentation depths are equal. Specific results are presented for conductive films based on indium-tin oxide. © 2004 Optical Society of America
