Abstract
Plasmon surface polaritons that are coherently launched at an index step interfere with the evanescent waves of the driving photon field. The resulting interference pattern can be analyzed by surface-plasmon microscopy and allows for the determination of the complex wave vector of the surface mode. Different interfaces are analyzed, and the results are compared with theoretical predictions.
