Abstract
Experimental values for small-angle Fraunhofer scattering by thick, metallic half planes are compared with simple, linear theoretical models. It is found that the diffraction pattern is not symmetrical about the zero scattering angle and that a relative phase shift in the Huygens sources is required to reproduce the measured spectrum. The finite thickness of the edge is found not to be significant for the diffraction pattern in the small-angle scattering regime. Good agreement is found between experiment and theory.
