Weak refractive scattering: a model system

Abstract

A model system for studying the effects of weak refractive scattering such as is observed in atmospheric turbulence is discussed. The system is a random distribution of monodisperse, nonabsorbing spheres. The spatial spectrum of the index-of-refraction variation is determined and, for the weak scattering case, is used to find the log-amplitude covariance, the wave structure function, and the mutual coherence function of the radiation field.
