Recursive solution of the dispersion relation of a surface polariton in a layered structure

Abstract

The transcendental equation for the propagation constants of a surface polariton in a layered structure is written in a form that is particularly amenable to solution by a recursive method. A numerical example is given for the surface phonon-polariton on a structure consisting of a Ge film on BeO.
