Reciprocity failure in Kodak HIE film exposed to ruby-laser pulses

Abstract

Kodak High-Speed Infrared Film Type 2481 HIE 421 was found to be less sensitive to photons in ruby-laser pulses (of duration 19–75 ns) than to photons from a conventional red light source. The ratio of the sensitivities varied smoothly with the optical density of the developed frame, ranging from about 1/3 at a density of 0.2 to about 1/30 at an optical density of 2.2. The data indicate that the photochemical law of reciprocity is not obeyed by this film over this range of exposure times.
