Discontinuity radiation in surface waveguides

Abstract

Diffraction occurs when a surface waveguide (such as a dielectric slab guide or an optical fiber) passes from one medium to another. Integral equations for transmission, reflection, and diffraction coefficients are derived. These equations are then solved asymptotically for the case of a small discontinuity.
