Ionization States of Some Unidentified Lines in Nitrogen

Not Accessible

Abstract

The charge components of a nitrogen ionic beam accelerated by a Van de Graaff machine and sent through a carbon-target foil were deflected by means of an electrostatic field. The resulting Doppler shift permitted the identification of the ionization state of a number of unidentified lines in the spectrum of nitrogen. These lines do not fit into the known energy-level schemes of nitrogen ions. The possibility that they stem from multiple-electron-excitation levels is discussed.
