Abstract

A study has been made of infrared spectra of metallic salts containing groups of the XO2-type ion. It has been shown that metaborate (and orthoborate) polymerize. Vibration spectra of the metallic metaborates indicate that the BO2 does not exist in the free state but under the polymerized form (BO2)n. Postulations are made concerning this structure.
