Abstract

Single-source few mode fiber-based microwave photonic finite – impulse response filters, which exploit the few mode fibers’ differential mode group delays as the separate optical delay lines of the filter, are experimentally demonstrated and compared to theoretical predictions. These microwave photonic filters exhibit excellent stability compared to equivalent conventional optical delay line filters in the coherent regime. The advantages and disadvantages of these robust photonic devices with extremely simple architectures are discussed.
