Bragg Grating-Based Switching in Highly-Nonlinear Bismuth-Oxide Fiber

Abstract

We report the first demonstration of Bragg grating-based all-optical switching in a highly nonlinear Bi2O3 fiber. At powers as low as 55 W the transmission changes from 90% to 20%, a 6.5 dB extinction ratio.
